Mirjana Morokvasic-Müller is a sociologist and CNRS Research Director Emeritus. She was affiliated with the ISP - Institut des sciences sociales du politique, Université de Paris Nanterre and associated with Cresppa-GTM. She holds a doctorate from the Université Paris V - René Descartes, and began her career at the Université de Lille III in 1970, where she was assistant professor in social psychology until 1979, the year she was appointed to the CNRS. In addition to teaching at the Université Paris-Nanterre, she has been a visiting researcher and professor at universities abroad, including the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin, the Freie Universität and the Technische Universität Berlin (Alexander von Humboldt scholarship holder).
Mirjana Morokvasic was appointed Marie Jahoda Professor at Ruhr Universität Bochum in 1999/2000 and Visiting Professor at Ochanomizu University Tokyo, Institute for Gender Studies in 2001.
She has led research seminars at doctoral and post-doctoral schools on the theme of migration and gender, including: IFU (Internationale Frauenuniversität Hanover 2000), ISP seminar (2007-2009, with Christine Catarino), and at the University of Minnesota in 2010 (with D. Gabaccia).
Mirjana Morokvasic's research and PUBLICATIONS in several languages focus on transnational migrations and mobilities, identity processes and gender, namely 1. MIGRATION, WOMEN and GENDER; 2. Her research and publications in several languages focus on migration, identity processes and gender. She has been a consortium partner as well as the leader of the French team in several EU projects which explore the relationship between transnationalism, migration and gender: «EthnoGeneration» 2002-2005, on intergenerational and gender aspects of the quality of life of ethnic entrepreneurs in the food sector in five EU states) ; “FeMiPol” (2006-2008, on impact of migration policies on integration of migrant women in eleven EU states; IDEA (2007-2009), a project comparing “old” and “new” immigration countries in Europe.
Mirjana Morokvasic has been consultant for different national and international institutions among others: nominated at the Conseil National des Populations Immigrées, France, expert at the OECD, the ILO, Council of Europe and the European Parliament, board member of the Scientific Council of the Fond National Suisse pour la Recherche, Bern, and for the European Commission. She has also been a member of the scientific or editorial boards of the Current Sociology/Sociologie Contemporaine, la Revue d’études comparatives est-ouest, Balkanologie, Migration Sociétés, Gender - Zeitschrift für Frauenforschung, Migracijske i etnicke teme, Central and Eastern European Migration Review.
